LadyDrinks September Edition: Being a MOMPRENEUR Panel Discussion on Achieving that Mythical Work-Life Balance
Event on 2013-09-05 18:00:00
Come listen to this panel discussion featuring three women who are successful entrepreneurs and mothers. Shobha, whose salons I've patronized since their inception in 2001, and my women's empowerment teacher Jennifer Macaluso-Gilmore, who I've cited on more than one occasion for changing how I carry myself as a professional woman today. And our title sponsor Soigne Kothari, owner of Soigne K.

About Jennifer Macaluso-Gilmore, Something Different For Women
JENNIFER MACALUSO-GILMORE founded “Something Different For Women, LLC” in 2003 & since that date has created a series of unique & empowering courses that have benefited hundreds of women in NYC & around the globe. Her courses are designed for women looking to make positive life changes or simply wanting improvement to the overall quality of their lives.

A graduate of N.Y.U., she began her own journey of personal transformation there 23 years ago. An avid student of life, her work continually focuses on her own journey of healing towards wholeness to then pass onto other women the resources she’s learned as well as the teachings & wisdom she’s gleaned. Some of the healing modalities & schools of thought Jennifer’s explored are: Core Energetics, Freudian, Jungian & Cognitive Behavioral therapies, “A Course In Miracles”, Twelve Step programs, Women’s History, New Thought History, Reiki, Rebirthing, Ayurvedic teachings, Primordial Sound meditation, Hatha & Hot yoga, the Alkaline healing philosophy, PTSD & Trauma work, Psychodrama & Experiential therapies, EMDR, EFT, Somato Emotional Release & Myofascial Release.

Jennifer's been featured in the NY Times, quoted in other well known publications & been in discussions with major publishers & production companies on possible future projects. She is happily married to her best friend of 14 years & the proud mother of two, small children, ages 6 & 2. She is currently on hiatus to focus on several of her own life transitions including restructuring her work so that she can better meet the needs of her ever growing community of women while still enjoying ample time with her family.

About Shobha Tummala, MyShobha.com
Although born in Michigan, Shobha Tummala, the founder & ceo of Shobha, spent her early years in Hyderabad, India under the care of her grandparents, who each infused natural rituals into Shobha's daily life from the start. "My grandmother made all of my beauty products herself," says Shobha. "Hair conditioner was created from crushed hibiscus petals picked from a tree in our backyard; soap from a mixture of shaved sandalwood & lentils; moisturizer was just the cream from fresh milk."
It was also in india where Shobha experienced the benefits of threading, the customary way to remove facial hair. In 2001, Shobha set out to create a salon that catered to people like her, who see hair removal as a necessity in life. She wanted a place where hair removal was the main focus instead of just some add-on, haphazard service in the back room of a nail salon.
After opening, Shobha learned about the harsh, unhappy working conditions within the industry from her employees. as a result, she reset the company's mission to a broader theme of superior quality, not only for services, products & clients, but for team members (employees) too. Each employee is provided opportunities for career growth & continuing education in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Currently, Shobha owns & operates four Shobha Locations in manhattan, and her newest in Washington DC. She has a masters in business administration from Harvard business school & an electrical engineering degree from Michigan State University. She is the mother of two and lives in Maryland with her husband.
About Soigne Kothari, Founder of Soigne K
Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Soigne Kothari received an undergraduate degree in Finance from H.R. College of Commerce in India and an Associate’s degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Being exposed to the family business of luxury products since she was young, Soigne has always understood the importance of quality and has had a keen eye for design aesthetic and details. She first exercised her love for design by helping her family and friends to select clothing and accessories. Realizing that there was a large market in New York City for clothing that paid homage to traditional Indian dress with modern, western silhouettes, she began to design her own clothing and jewelry and to host trunk shows. Soigne went on to design Karma, a successful line of spiritually inspired jewelry that was distributed nationally by Fragments. Soigne decided to combine both her education and design backgrounds to open a retail store that could serve as a platform for Indian designers and expose them to a Western customer base. "My dream of designing and love of Indian fashion has never faded. Fashion is all about creating brands. With Soigne K, I will be creating a brand for these talented designers" she says.
